In an effort to better serve our residential customers, we have compiled a short
list of ordinance rules to help you understand what you are required to do.
- All residents must use an approved trash can of 20 to 40 gallons. The resident
is allowed three cans per week. This can must have handles and a tight-fitting lid.
The can should not exceed 50 pounds full and cannot contain any yard waste (leaves,
limbs or grass clippings). All trash inside needs to be bagged. Bagged trash will
quicken the collection process and lessen the chance of trash blowing into yards
or on to the streets.
- Containers must be on the curbside by 7 am on the collection day. Routes are started
each day prior to 7 am and trucks and employees cannot “backtrack” to pick up missed
cans. Cans will be removed by the resident at the end of the collection day. Containers
will not be left at the curb or in front of the house in storage racks or boxes.
- The Sanitation Department will now pick up more items at no charge. This will include
appliances, water heaters, furniture, etc. that are no longer serviceable to the
homeowner. These items and all recyclables (list on back) may be left at curbside
on the day after your regular trash day. Construction debris or home improvement
items (roofing, metal, lumber) will be picked up for a fee. The Sanitation Department
will establish the amount of the fee for this service.
- Yard waste (leaves, limbs and bagged grass clippings) will be picked up at no charge
to the resident. The City will no longer vacuum loose grass clippings. Grass clippings
must be bagged. The Street Department will cover every street in the city until
reaching the beginning point where the route starts over. If a citizen places their
yard waste at the curb just after the crew has gone by, there will probably be what
seems to be a long wait until they return. Tree limbs should be placed at the curb
with the cut end toward the street. Limbs must not be over 6’ long and anything
over 6” in diameter must be disposed of by the resident. Commercial lawn/tree service
shall be responsible to dispose of all yard waste and tree trimmings. Pine needles
need to be placed in securely tied bags at the curb. Loose leaves must be within
3’ of the curb for the vacuum to reach. The City of Heber Springs is one of the
very few cities in the state that has a continual yearlong yard waste removal program
at no charge to the residents.
We appreciate the cooperation of our residents in ensuring the continual cleanliness
and beauty of our city. The city intends to offer quality services for reasonable
fees and hopes that the residents appreciate this service.
